Insight 84: Will you stop loving your Children?

Will you stop loving your children because the authorities and religious leaders said so? If your sons or daughters find themselves in a dilemma about their sexuality would you ostracize them the way laws in some countries require you to?

It may seem like the right thing to do in the days when people were tortured for being witches and sinners but in this day and age is it even forgivable? Parents have loved their children and have been protective over them even when they turn out to be murderers and villains. How is it even possible that their love stops at the point when they discover that their children's sexuality is not heteronoramtive? Just because someone in power says it's a crime to be considered abnormal would you as a parent nod your head and agree to that notion and punish your child?

It's not even a new age thing that a child may grow up to be gay, lesbian or a transgender. It dates back to the 25th century BCE. In the 342 the first law against homosexual marriage was proclaimed by Constantius II and also Constans. And in the year 390 homosexual act was declared illegal by Christian emperors Valentinian II, Theodosius I and Arcadius and those guilty were burned alive in public. Another Christian emperor Justinian I also blamed homosexuals for famines, earthquakes and petilences. King Egica went to the extend of adopting laws of castration, hair shearing, lashes and exile to those who practiced homosexual acts in 693. France in 1260 sodomites lost their testicles on the first offence, their penises on the second and their lives on the third. Gay women were also mutilated and executed.

Is this what we want to hold true to the end of times? Standing on the sidelines and casting stones? But times have changed and more and more countries are amending their laws to include the lgbt communities to embrace them as their own. Yet, some other countries are still punishing their citizens for being different.

Would your children be anymore worse is they were gay, lesbian or a transgender? Would you love them any less just because someone tells you to?
